Kick Start Your Training

Anyone can be a runner. Exercise promotes the release of the feel-good chemicals called endorphins. Running helps the body hold on to mood-boosting neurotransmitters serotonin and norepinephrine. So here is sure fire tips to get you started in the world of running.

  1. Before starting, set a realistic goal while you build your base level of fitness.
  2. Take it easy – its becoming too frequent that people feel like they need to throw themselves fully into training. Take your time, build up the tempo, as pushing yourself too hard too soon can cause injury and demotivation.
  3. Buy some running shoes – You can run in any clothes you fancy but its important to have suitable shoes to keep you injury free. They don’t need to be too expensive, just fit for purpose.
  4. Walk first then walk/run- build yourself up to running, start by walking at a good pace, before alternating between running and walking, for example 2 minutes running followed by 1 minute walking.
  5. Start with setting goals in regards to time and not distance, as running by time takes the emphasis off of pace.
  6. Run three days a week – Regular running means you are more likely to achieve consistency and are less likely to quit.
  7. By the end of the third week, your metabolism changes, you’ve got more energy meaning if you make it to your ninth run, you’re more likely to see the benefits and continue to pursue running.
